Quill Lake will host a Richardson Pioneer Men’s Fastball Game this Sunday at 5:30. Quill Lake approached the Rosebud Royals to host a game in their town so the two Wadena teams (Royals and Wildcats) have decided to move their game from Monday June 4th to Quill Lake Sunday June 3rd. The neutral site games give the league the opportunity to showcase its quality of play and allows Quill Lake to showcase their upgraded facilities.

Other neutral site games for the Richardson Pioneer Men’s Fastball League include the Rosebud Royals vs Rhein Rockets June 21st in Sheho at 7:00, and Da Boyz vs Rhein Rockets double-header in Ituna June 22 6:00 and 8:00. The Resort Village of Leslie Beach may also host a neutral site game later in June if their brand new diamond is ready in time.

Whether permitting, Friday sees a pair of games with Da Boyz (Gordons) at the Fishing Lake Cubs at 6:30, and Rhein Rockets at Foam Lake Merchants at 7:00. Most of the Richardson Pioneer Men’s Fastball League teams will be in action this Saturday at the Wynyard Ice-Breakers Tournament. Sunday will also see some action in Wynyard with Rhein in town for a double header starting at 12:00.

The Merchants bats showed up on time in Wynyard scoring 10 runs in the top of the 1st inning capped off by a 3 run shot by Kyle Jones. The Blues made it close by scoring 5 at the end and threatening more before the Merchants got out of it. Tayler Jordan got the start for the Blues and went 2/3 of an inning. Mike Jordan came on in relief. James Anderson picks up the Win for Foam Lake pitching all 7 innings.

Wadena Wildcats Bantams took an early lead against the Royals 6-2 after 2 and 8-6 after 4. Luke Scutchings (pictured catching) got the boys rolling with a home run in the first. Nate Pomedli (pictured pitching) held the Royals bats at bay through the first half of the game. The seasoned Royals teams found their stride later in the game lead by Center Fielder Carson Scheschuk going 3-3. Scheschuk was a double short of the cycle with a home run, triple, single and Sacrifice Fly. The only other home run was off the bat of Scott Comfort in his first game of the season, back from a broken wrist.

Wadena Bantam Wildcats will be hosting North East Softball League on Saturday. Play starts at 9:00 AM with Wadena playing the Shellbrook Rangers. The tournament is a double round robin with the third team being the Saskatoon Selects. All three teams will be representing Saskatchewan at various Championships in August, with the Selects going to Innerkip, Ontario for the National Championships and the Wildcats and Rangers going to the Western Canadians in Kelowna.

Games will be played 9:00, 11:00, 1:00, 3:00, 5:00 And 7:00.

League Games scheduled in Key Sat. between the Royals and Braves have been postponed due to wet conditions.

Braves 10 Wildcats 6
Wadena jumped out to an early 3-1 lead and held on until the 5th inning when Stoney Creek took over. The young Wadena boys kept the ball in play at the plate but Stoney’s big bats pulled through in the end. A great performance at the plate for Wadena involved Nathen Pomedli, going 3 for 3 with two doubles and a home run. Both teams played well with only one error committed each.

Royals 8 Cubs 1 The Royals jumped out to a 7-1 lead through 3 and held on for the 8-1 victory. Royals Shortstop Greg Tokarchuk hit a home run in the 1st and the winning pitcher was James Holowaty. Ian Lazar dusted off the cleats after a few years off to close out the 7th inning on the mount.
